Riders on the Streets: towards better streets

WEBINAR

New trends and innovations in commerce and delivery have a significant impact on the quality and the use of streets. It is therefore essential to deepen our understanding of the subject and develop new methods (design tools, strategies, models) to integrate present and future demands of logistics. Our proposal focuses on the question of how streets can incorporate this new demand, not as a pure technical issue, but as an opportunity to improve public space. Beside spatial design aspects, it is essential to incorporate time into the system. By opening up this idea, we can start designing streets differently, making the same space available at different times for different uses and users.

The questions related to last-mile delivery have an impact on several areas, from mobility to economy, from time management to the use of space. This webinar aims to broaden the knowledge on the topic.

Guest speakers: Heleen Buldeo Rai (Mobilise / Vrije Universiteit Brussel), Francesca Miazzo (Foodlogica), Renaud Sarrazin (Urbike) and Nick Welch (Komodo Bikes): moderation is by Daniel Casas Valle. The webinar is organised by New Environments, Urban Dynamics and the Future Design of Streets association.

Riders on the Streets is a spatial design research led by Giacomo Gallo and Daniel Casas Valle, with assistance of Catarina Breia Dias. The research is funded by the Creative Industry Fund NL and the municipality of Leiden.

The webinar was broadcasted on 22.02.2024.
